The just-launched commuter train has been nicknamed 'Madaraka Express'.

According to an advertisement on the local dailies, the train that was launched by President Kenyatta in Mombasa will be known as Madaraka, a Swahili name meaning ‘authority’.

“The Madaraka Express is here!” the advertisement read.

The naming comes after radio queen Carol Mutoko shared a video that went viral on why the train should not be referred to as ‘SGR’, which is a technological name.

The youtube video was widely shared, with State House Digital Director Dennis Itumbi posting it on twitter.

The train will be offering services between Mombasa and Nairobi on daily basis, with two trains set to offer express services while others will offer intercity services.

The county train will make stops at the intermediate stations of Mariakani, Maiseny, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali and Athi River.
