The tenth anniversary of Royal Media’s Egesa FM culminated in Kisii town with thousands of people convening at the historical Gusii stadium for the celebrations.
The event was limited to thanksgiving as several church choirs and gospel singers took to the stage to entertain locals with their music.
Head of Radio Nancy Kwamboka insisted that the station will not be used ‘for political mileage’ and vowed to safeguard the interests of the public through objective reporting.
“The Egesa Radio is an independent station determined to achieve accurate, balanced and impartial reporting," said Kwamboka.
"Our key roles of informing, entertaining and educating the society are the priorities,” she said.
“We are not there to give people political mileage but to expose all the activities whether positive or negative happening in our society," she said.
"We are determined to play our watchdog role to ensure all public servants execute their roles transparently,” Kwamboka added.
Chief guest Alice Chae urged Journalists to remain objective and warned them from being compromised at the expense of the community.
“I know as Journalists you go through a lot of challenges but you must remain factual, objective and precise," said the Women Rep.
"Be informed ahead of your audience, do ground work well and the media law will protect you,” she said.
She also seized the opportunity to warn the audience from using the freedom of media to haul insults against their opponents in normal programs.
“I understand we have Radio talk shows where as audience you're given opportunity to contribute. Do not use these the opportunities settle differences with other people," said Chae.
"Egesa is not a court and learn to address your internal issues without using the media,” added the Nyamira Women Representative.
