The flock was stolen at about three in the morning, and the raiders are believed to have driven the animals towards Baringo area.

Area OCPD Alex Ng’anga confirmed the incident, saying they are yet to establish the identity of the raiders, who remain unknown.

“We have managed to recover 38 goats at Muchongoi area. We received the information from the residents and were able to track down the raiders to the area,” he added.

He confirmed that no one was injured during the exchange of fire between the police and the raiders, noting that they will continue the search for the remaining animals

“We get cases of cattle and goat theft every month. It is slowly becoming a common phenomenon,” said John Karanja, a resident.

According to the residents, there is only one anti-stock theft unit in Suswa area, which has only three officers.

An area leader, John Kamau appealed for the government to increase more officers in the area, as that is the only way they can tame theft cases.

“We are also calling on the government to help us curb the issue of small arms, which is becoming easily available to the residents,” he added.
