Mr Gichana has been held captive for over three years without prosecution on money laundering allegations with the United States being keen to have him indicted.

But through Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, Mr Odinga insisted yet again that he is in talks with Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli to have the embattled businessman released.

“Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is in advanced talks with Tanzanian President to have Don Bosco released. He understands that the process has taken long and called for patience as negotiations get to the homestretch," said Bosire.

"He is optimistic that he will secure his release,” said Bosire who read Odinga’s statement at Kitutu Chache during the burial of Mama Celine Gichana.

He said the process will take at least three months due to conflicts of international laws that have affected the case.

"This is a multinational case but the former PM is assuring you that in three months or so Don Bosco will be free and executing his businesses as usual,” Bosire added.

Nominated Senator Janet Ong’era, MP Jimmy Angwenyi and Kisii Governor James Ongwae threatened to mobilise a delegation of 50 MPs to Tanzania if President Pombe delays the release of Mr Gichana.

Gichana is remembered for playing a key role in Mr Odinga’s 2007 presidential bid after donating the famous Hammer vehicle that was used during the campaigns.
