The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced measures aimed at curbing habitual chaos that rock the party’s nomination exercises.
Speaking at the party’s National Governing Council (NGC) meeting at Orange House on Friday, Raila said that as a party, ODM is keen to streamline its nomination processes to ensure it is reflective of the will of the people.
“We have agreed to set up a taskforce to look into our performance in the election and review nomination rules considering their positive and negative impacts on our performance,” said Raila.
"The task force will look into capacity, resources, strengths, weaknesses and processes of our national electoral board not to apportion blame but to strengthen it and to avoid past pitfalls. The task force will present its report to the party within the next 90 days," he added.
Raila further hit out at the Jubilee government for leading the country in the wrong direction, adding that only ODM has a solution to the issues facing Kenyans.
“The stalemate for the sham election has come with some silver lining. It has made it clear that Jubilee is offering yesterday’s approaches to today’s problems,” said Raila.
“Jubilee is offering the repression of the 60s to the 90s. Jubilee is offering a re-spray across the country and offering it as something new,” he added.
He further stated that ODM has had to reassemble and reboot in preparation for what he termed as a grueling battle ahead.
“We are here to size up the battle ahead and get battle ready. When times are tough and uncertain, Kenyans look to ODM for direction and leadership,” said the NASA leader.
“To meet the great expectations, we must have a strong and complete team that is equal to the task ahead. That is the reason we have been at this task in the past two days to take stalk, discuss achievements, setbacks and the work that lies ahead," added Raila.
The meeting resolved to appoint lawyer Edwin Sifuna as the party’s Secretary General to be assisted by Agnes Zani and Florence Mutua.
NASA principals Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka were also present.
