ODM party leader Raila Odinga has finally agreed with Cord co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka that the coalition conducts joint party nominations.
In the arrangement, all Cord affiliate parties will present candidates for nomination and the overall winner will fly the coalition’s ticket as Cord.
This, however, does not mean the coalition's affiliate parties will dissolve.
"Cord leader Raila Odinga is in agreement with the proposal by co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka for joint nominations between the parties forming the Cord coalition and the fielding of candidates on Cord flag in a similar fashion with that of Narc in 2002 elections," a Tuesday statement from the ODM secretariat and signed by Mr Odinga's aide Dennis Onyango said.
"The coalition will encourage the other parties willing to come on board to support this arrangement that enables them retain their identity while flying the corporate Cord flag."
The development comes ten days after parties affiliated to the Jubilee coalition dissolved to form the Jubilee Party.
The three Cord co-principals, Mr Odinga, Mr Musyoka and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula have been under pressure from a section of politicians affiliated to the coalition to form one political party to counter Jubilee.
"This arrangement will help the coalition avoid competition between constituent parties that saw them split votes and lose seats in some cases," the statement further said.
