ODM leader Raila Odinga has said the Coast region's major problem is not the ownership of title deeds but historical land injustices.
He said the injustices would have been addressed if President Uhuru Kenyatta implemented the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report which was handed to him in May 2013.
“Historical injustices began with the Arabs, British and Africans and those behind them are absentee landlords who live in Arabia, Europe and in Kenya,” he said.
Addressing journalists in Kilifi on Wednesday, Raila said the Jubilee Party is not popular at the Coast.
He was responding to Deputy President William Ruto’s statement on Sunday that Jubilee had conquered Coast region ahead of the 2017 polls.
He said issuing 600,000 deeds in the region did not solve the land problem affecting the residents.
On his part, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who accompanied Raila said the Coast region will not support Jubilee because they are the same people who frustrate locals.
“They stole all resources and frustrated people. They want counties to remain poor so as to continue supporting them,” he said.
