Cord principal Raila Odinga has blamed the Jubilee government for failing to revive the sugar sector in the country.
Speaking at Shisiru market in Lurambi constituency during his Kakamega county tour, he said that the government was looking for symptoms of the sugar problem instead of focussing on the root cause.
He pointed out that the government was unable to sort out the sugar problem at the giant Mumias Sugar Company despite pumping billions of shillings in it since they lack knowledge of how to handle it.
The Cord leader argued that sugar sector management should be left to county governments because they are well placed to address issues affecting farmers at the grassroots.
He assured that Cord had a plan to the sugar industry that will ensure all stakeholders are well catered for.
