Cord leader Raila Odinga has backtracked on his stand in regard to independent candidates as he seeks to rise to power in the forthcoming general elections, saying that he is not against them.
The former prime minister had insisted that his side has nothing to do with independent candidates, which attracted mixed reactions from differect factions.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer, however stated clearly that he is not fight independent candidates.
“We must not kill the spirit of political parties in Kenya to build a firm political base for the presidency,” he stated.
The opposition leaders said this after meeting a section of the independent candidates led by Nyatike Member of Parliament Omondi Anyanga.
Other leaders who attended the meeting included Kisumu Women Rep Rose Nyamunga, former Assistant Minister Ayiecho Olweny, former Principal Secretary Carey Orege and Richard Muga.
Sources close to the opposition leader, who has insisted that he will beat President Kenyatta, reveal that Raila wants to avoid possible fallout ahead of the election date.
