The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has come out strongly to condemn Interior CS, Joseph Nkaissery of the arrest of the five Cord legislators last week.
The Cord members were addressing the media on Monday after a lunch meeting with some of the MPs who were detained last week over hate speech.
Cord leader Raila Odinga accused Nkaissery of being a dictator stating that his orders are too extreme at times.
Nkaissery, however, rubbished the claims by the party leader stating that Cord should be ready to take responsibility for the mistakes they make. He further on went to explain that he had no authority to warrant arrests.
“Political leaders are out saying I have dictatorial tendencies and that I orchestrated the arrest of the eight legislators. They should know I do not have the powers to arrest anyone because that is the work of the law, but the arrests of the legislators were warranted,” stated Nkaissery.
Raila also lashed out at Francis Ole Kaparo, the chair of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) accusing him of trying to micromanage the country.
Ford leader, Moses Wetangula also spoke on the matter saying that leaders in the country have a right to point out the evils in society without being condemned for it.
