Photo/standardmedia.co.keNASA’s planned Saturday rally in Eldoret town has been cancelled as opposition leaders are expected to attend former Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) Chairman Bethuel Kiplagat’s burial in Nandi.
Kiplagat will be buried in Mosoriot, where key politicians including President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are expected to attend.
NASA’s canceled rally will now be held on Sunday and will be attended by NASA Pentagon members Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Isaac Ruto.
Raila was expected to pitch camp in Rift Valley for three days beginning Friday as he moves to marshal support for NASA ahead of the August election.
The NASA leaders’ visit comes at a time a poll recently conducted hinted Governor Ruto who is DP Ruto’s key critique in the region had gained fame in the vote rich region.
NASA will hold a series of rallies in Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo and Nandi Counties. All the counties overwhelmingly voted for Uhuru in 2013.
According to NASA’s programme, the opposition leaders will split into three teams and hold rallies in several areas in Elgeyo Marakwet including Toot, Kapsowar, Tambach, Chepkorio and wind up the day’s events with a huge rally in Iten town.
On the same day, Raila will lead the NASA brigade in Nandi to campaign in Tinderet, Lessos, Cheptarwai, Kabiyet, Mosoriot, Serem, Kobujoi and Kaptumo before holding a major rally in Nandi Hills.
On Sunday, the opposition chiefs will hold a leaders’ meeting in Eldoret town before addressing a major rally at the famous 64 stadium in Eldoret town.
