An opinion poll result has indicated that the National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, has reduced the gap between him and Jubilee leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

40 per cent of the respondents in the poll said they would vote for Raila, while 49 per cent said Uhuru is their most preferred candidate.

In March, however, Uhuru had 51 per cent support while Raila had 24 per cent, in a poll also conducted by Radio Africa Group.

According to the fresh poll, Uhuru is ahead of Raila by just 9 per cent, with 81 days left to the August 8 general election.

It is the first opinion poll released after Raila was unveiled as the Nasa flag bearer.

Radio Africa says it conducted the poll by Computer Aided Telephone Interview (CATI) between May 2 and 14.

3,430 respondents over 18 years in 28 counties participated in the survey.

The poll carries a 1.7 percent margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level, the Group says.

Kalonzo Musyoka will be his running mate, just like in the 2013 polls, in which they lost to the President and his deputy William Ruto.

This is the fourth time Raila is seeking to occupy State House.
