[photo/ Raila Odinga Facebook page.]National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has accused the police of using excessive force during demonstrations which occurred after August 8 elections thereby leading to deaths of many of the opposition supporters.
Speaking at Nairobi City Mortuary on Thursday, Mr. Odinga said that people who died were innocent and that they were illegally killed while exercising their right to demonstrate.He said that since then, the government has not issued any apology regarding the killings.
He lamented the death of a seven-year-old boy Godfrey Mutinda who according to him was shot by police officers while playing near his home during the demonstrations.
"'The government has been silent since the police started killing Kenyans innocently.They should come clean and ask for forgiveness,'''he said.
The leader said that the actions of murder will not sway the Coalition in their fight for free and credible elections where the will of the people is respected.
"Kenyans will not be cowed by the government frustrations.We will move on to ensure we have a country which everyone is proud of.We must have free and credible polls,''he said.
Mr. Odinga expressed his disappointment on Ambassadors representing various countries'interests in Kenya by being silent when lives of the people are mercilessly taken away by the police during legal demonstrations.
He was accompanied by other NASA leaders including Siaya Senator James Orengo among others where 16 bodies of those who died during the protests were being taken by their relatives for burial.
NASA has financially supported their burials and that each family is expected to be given Sh. 50,000.
