While his role in government still remains unclear, sources say that President Uhuru Kenyatta had recommended him as Africa Union's special envoy.

Just two weeks after meeting President Salva Kiir in Juba, Odinga flew to South Africa where he held talks with exiled former Vice President Riek Machar.

"I have had fruitful discussions with Hon. Raila Odinga in the quest for peace in our country. Those of us in opposition have been advocating for it," Machar said.

On his part, Raila said: "I held a meeting with Dr. riek Machar and this is part of the efforts to reconcile warring sides."

Sources hints that Machar, whose loyal troops have been taking on the government, agreed to travel back home for the peace talks.

Odinga's success comes days after IGAD failed to reach a consensus with the warring parties at Addis Ababa prompting Kenya to take over.
