Coalition for reforms and democracy (Cord) leader, Raila Odinga, has criticised the new measures introduced by Education CS Fred Matiang'i in a bid to curb exam cheating .
Raila said the rules will punish students including those who do not perpetuate exam cheating.
Speaking in Mombasa on Saturday during the launch of county bursaries, Mr Raila said that the new rules cannot curb exam cheating.
“We must deal with the problem of cheating right from where it starts which is at the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec), the organisation charged with the setting and safekeeping of exams,” said Mr Raila.
He further added that students are not to be blamed for the vice.
"We do not fix the problem of exam cheating by turning our children into criminals and keeping them out of contact with their parents and the world,” he said.
The bursary scheme launched by the county government of Mombasa is expected to help more than 14,000 students in a move to boost education in the county.
