Kibra lawmaker Kenneth Obura has come to the defense of his party leader Raila Odinga amid bashing from the ruling Jubilee Party following his claims that the national examinations should be pushed forward to give room for the October 17 presidential rematch.

The ODM leader on Tuesday in a press briefing maintained that the examinations have to be postponed a week further saying that this will not in any way affect the candidates attracting attacks from both President Kenyatta DP Ruto and their cronies.

However, speaking on Citizen TV Tuesday, Obura said that Odinga was misquoted rubbishing President Kenyatta's claims that he is a self-centred leader who has no consideration for Kenyan students.

He said that Odinga means well for the students and wants them to do their final exams in a quiet and comfortable environment.

''Raila Odinga was misquoted as he did not mean to rubbish the examinations which hod the key to our children's future.Actually he just wants the elections to come first so that the exams can be comfortably held without haste and in the absence of the current political incitement,'' said Obura.

He also said that Odinga's proposal is nothing new to the nation urging Jubilee to stop making a fuss out of it.

''This is not new in the nation. In 1988 President Moi postponed the A-level examinations to create room for the elections but our competitors are trying to create an impression that Raila is trying to impose something new on Kenyans,'' he said.
