Cord leader Raila Odinga has criticised Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and some governors for being wasteful of public resources on global ‘benchmarking’ trips.
Speaking at the inaugural Kilifi International Investment Conference in Kilifi County, Raila said the county lawmakers were being wasteful in the pretext of benchmarking and bonding.
“We hear that there are 20 MCAs in Korea or India for benchmarking and others on bonding missions in Dar es Salaam. That is a sheer waste of resources,” he said.
Raila criticised wastage of funds both at the national and county government levels calling on the counties to fight corruption and bureaucracy keeping investors away.
He said devolution was still threatened by forces keen on returning the country to a centralised governance system.
At the same time, Raila questioned the source of millions of shillings being donated by Jubilee leaders across the country.
Raila is touring different counties popularising his agenda before the 2017 election which is just ten months away.
