Leaders at the Coast have criticised Cord principal Raila Odinga for failing to attend the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) conference.
Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga condemned Raila’s move, saying the former Prime Minister was being dishonest with his boycott calls.
“By skipping the forum, Mr Odinga is clearly not concerned about peace during next year’s election and voters should be wary of such a leader,” she said.
“I am surprised that a leader of Odinga’s stature can prevent MPs from attending such an important forum,” she added,
Her sentiments were echoed by Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, who faulted Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori and Kwale Senator Juma Boy for defending Raila’s move.
Mung’aro dismissed the duo’s claims that the conference was a Jubilee event, and faulted Raila for directing Cord members not to attend the conference.
“This is a forum organised and sanctioned by Parliament and all political parties to discuss peace ahead of the polls next year. It has nothing to do with party affiliation or membership. Mr Odinga is wrong in asking the opposition leaders not to attend. Does he want the hotels to sack all these workers, most of whom voted for the opposition in 2013?” asked Mung’aro, as quoted by the Nation.
