Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Secretary General (SG) Edwin Sifuna has laughed off claims by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale that Raila Odinga will back Deputy President William Ruto presidential bid in 2022.
Sifuna terms Duale’s claim as ‘wishful’ thinking and a plan meant to confuse NASA supporters.
In an interview with a local daily on Monday, Sifuna said that Raila does no owe Ruto any political debt as Duale and others are claiming.
“As far as we know, Raila Odinga does not owe any political debt to anyone and people should stop dragging his name into their affairs,” he said.
Sifuna asked Duale and others to wait for 2022 when they will meet up with the former Prime Minister on the ballot.
The new ODM Secretary General maintained that Raila will be on the presidential ballot in 2022.
On Saturday, Duale was quoted saying that Raila owes DP Ruto a political debt.
He claimed that the Deputy President helped him (Raila) get the Prime Minister position in the coalition government in 2008.
The Garissa MP said that Raila has to ‘return the hand’ by endorsing and supporting the Deputy President when the time comes.
On Sunday, however, DP Ruto asked Jubilee party politicians stop debate on 2022 succession politics.
The Deputy President asked elected leaders to focus on serving Kenyans, saying that politics will play out when the right time comes.
