Kakamega County is jostling up to host this year's devolution conference at the end of the month and this has been at the center of a possible meet up between ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru.
A meeting between the two leaders who have had a frosty relationship over the years had been scheduled on Wednesday morning alongside devolution CS Eugine Wamalwa at Mr Odinga's Capitol Hill office but senior officials in the ministry and the ODM party announced that the meeting could not take place.
The ODM party has however admitted to working closely with the organizers of the conference in which Mr Odinga has been invited to give a keynote address as the 'Father of Devolution".
ODM party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday while informing the media of the cancellation of the meeting said it was indeed a great honor for the ministry to invite Mr. Odinga in the place of the Father of Devolution, saying the party will corporate with the organizing committee.
Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa through his aide Kizito Temba had on Tuesday sent invites to media houses saying that he will lead the Technical committee planning the devolution fete to Raila’s Capitol Hill office.
Mr Temba however informed Ms Waiguru f the cancellation of the meeting over absence of hs boss who had rushed to Nakuru as a result of a reschedule request by Mr Odinga that had made his presence impractical.
“The devolution CS was rushing to Nakuru and thus excused himself after the Raila team asked us to push the meeting to noon from the earlier agreed 10:30 am. He will be attending to an urgent matter with a committee of the Senate,” Temba told journalists.
