NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s statement that ‘children will not die if national exams are delayed by two weeks’ shows how he doesn't care about the welfare of the 'common mwananchi'. Mr Odinga has opposed IEBC’s announcement that the rerun of the presidential election be held on October 17, claiming that he was not consulted when that date was set. The NASA flag bearer wants the elections to be conducted on October 24 or 31. For the record, IEBC does not need to consult anyone when setting dates for elections. President Uhuru Kenyatta, who beat Odinga by more than 1.4 million votes in last month’s polls, has welcomed the new date for the election, saying he is ready to defeat the ODM leader by even a wider margin. Secondary school students, who have been waiting for four years to do the exam, do not want to be involved with the political tension while thinking about KCSE exams, which often define one’s future. Standard 8 pupils, who have been looking forward to facing KCPE for about 10 years, are also set to be greatly inconvenienced if Raila’s date is to be used. Kenyans from across the political divide — both NASA and Jubilee — have come out to condemn the low regard with which Raila treats ordinary people. He has been accused of being too self-centered to care about the struggles of the ‘common mwanannchi’. “That is someone who has zero interest in Kenya's well being,” wrote En Eye Kay on Facebook. Lill Wmaitha Mwangi, added: “And he won't die if the elections are held on the 17th, will he?”Raila has exposed himself to Kenyans, and this is likely to make him lose by a bigger margin next month. A number of his supporters have vowed to support for President Kenyatta.
