Opposition leader Raila Odinga has received the backing of the United States following his very dramatic meeting with his political arch-nemesis President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Visiting U.S secretary of state Rex Tillerson hailed the opposition leader's decision to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying that it was an encouraging demonstration of leadership from him.
''I do want to congratulate President Kenyatta and opposition leader Odinga on their meeting this morning and their announcement this morning. This is a very positive step in our view... Today both of these men showed great leadership in coming together in the agreement that they signed today,'' Mr. Tillerson said.
Tillerson was speaking yesterday in Nairobi hours after landing in the country from Djibouti.
His remarks are a major pat of the back of Raila Odinga after days of bashing from the U.S over his swearing-in.
