ODM leader Raila Odinga underwent a rare ceremony in a Luo shrine where he was blessed and given the power to represent the community in seeking the Presidency in 2017.
The former Premier was dressed in traditional regalia and assured his supporters of a win in 2017.
The ceremony took place at Got Ramogi Hills in Bondo, Siaya county.
“I want to assure opposition supporters and those who want a change of guard in this country that I am more than ready for this political battle,” Odinga stated.
The elders presented Raila with a two-headed spear as a symbol of the tools needed for the win.
“I have received blessings and tools of war that will enable me to face the battle with a lot of courage. I will not disappoint you,” he added.
After the ceremony, Raila defended accusations against him on the financial fall of the Mumias Sugar Company.
“Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto have realised that they have failed in addressing the issues affecting this country and they have instead turned to blaming others,” said Raila.
