The family of NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga has been prompted to hire private security guards to provide security at his rural home in Bondo after his four GSU security officers were withdrawn by the government.
According to the caretaker at Raila’s Opoda Farm, Boniface Oginga, who spoke to the press on Wednesday, all the four police officers who have been guarding the Opoda Farm were withdrawn.
"A police vehicle came and asked for one of the officers. They then told him to pack and thereafter left," he said.
He added that the officers, who were acting under strict instructions left immediately, pushing the family to seek the service of a private security provider.
Oginga, who revealed that they are now living in fear after the security details were withdrawn, said that this is the second time Odinga's security was withdrawn by the government since he was hired at the home.
"This is not the first time we are experiencing this incident. His security was once withdrawn when he was the Minister for Energy, “said Oginga who has worked at the home for more than 10 years.
When contacted for comment, Siaya County Commissioner Josephine Onunga said that she could not comment because the transfer of police officers is not on her docket.
"I know they have been withdrawn but that is being done directly by the Inspector General," she said.
