Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa has defended Deputy President William Ruto against accusations of engaging in premature politics ahead of 2022 general election.
ODM leader Raila Odinga over the weekend castigated Ruto for allegedly focusing on his presidential bid instead of helping President Uhuru Kenyatta deliver on his Big Four agenda.
"Let those who are talking about the presidency stop that debate now. Better concentrate in working for Kenyans till that time reaches" said the former Prime Minister.
But speaking on Sunday, Ichung'wa said Raila had panicked, hence resulting to attacking Ruto, who according to the MP, was doing his work of uniting the country.
"I don't know why Raila panics when Ruto devolves the recent handshake to benefit all Kenyans at every village and corner of this country," he said.
Ichung'wa asked the DP to continue with his forays to the grassroots and ignore political detractors out there to discourage him.
"Many people will say a lot of things about you. Some will despise, others will be disrespectful, others will be non-appreciative to you, but if God has anointed you to be the leader of the country, and that will happen in His name," he said.
The second-time legislator spoke at Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) and St Benedict's Catholic Church in Thika, where Ruto attended Sunday service and a fundraiser.
