Gatundu North lawmaker Kigo Njenga has said that Cord leader Raila Odinga has sensed defeat in 2017 polls hence the anti-IEBC protests.
Njenga asked Kenyans on Monday not to be dragged the 2007/2008 way.
“We are seeing Raila (Odinga) has sensed defeat in 2017 and we want to assist him, but we are warning Kenyans to be careful not to be dragged the 2007 way where nobody respects the constitution. As MPs we will resolve this matter,” he told The Star.
The MP said they will not only support the removal of IEBC commissioners, but also the entire IEBC secretariat headed by CEO Ezra Chiloba, as Parliament resumes sittings Tuesday.
One man died in Kisumu after being shot by police in Cord demonstrations on Monday.
53 others sustained serious injuries during the protests in Kisumu.
Of those injured in Kisumu, 24 were treated at the Kisumu County Hospital, 22 at the Jaramogi Referral and Teaching Hospital and another seven in Homa Bay County Hospital.
Nairobi experienced peaceful demonstrations unlike other Mondays.
Odinga said at Uhuru Park during the demos that from next week, Cord will be demonstrating twice a week to put more pressure on the government to start negotiations on the removal of the nine electoral bosses.
“We are ready to sit down and talk over this matter. Our position, however, is that this commission has lost integrity and cannot be trusted with our 2017 elections. If by Sunday the government will not have come to the table then I declare that from next week we will demonstrate on Monday and Thursday,” he said.
