The MCAs from the vote-rich County allegedly met Raila at a secret location where they planned a deal over the 2017 elections.

Some of the leaders in attendance quoted by The Standard disclosed that they met on personal grounds.

According to the publication, the leaders said Raila was a Kenyan who could meet anybody, and not just for political reasons.

In November, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi toured the County with Mukothima MCA Mwenda Gataya, saying that despite Tharaka Nithi always being vote-rich, no development had taken place since independence.

The move by the Opposition to make in-roads into the County show that Jubilee has a tough task ahead as voters may not automatically vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Raila has driven the corruption agenda against Jubilee and it seems to be gaining traction as even areas with undisputed support for the incumbents have started airing their frustrations against the government.
