The Kenyan political landscape is becoming rougher on a daily basis.
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, wrote to the IEBC on Tuesday, stating that he will not take part in the repeat presidential election slated for October 26.
The dramatic announcement has introduced a new twist to a fast-moving political drama, forcing the IEBC officials to seek advice from its legal experts.
This new development has dropped hints that the opposition chief could be contemplating quitting politics.
Raila said that the notion that he has to be on the ballot is a misunderstanding.
He said he can back anyone but he can only do so if he is sure of a fair process.
“It is not sufficiently necessary that Raila Odinga must be on the ballot. I can back anyone but I do not want my candidate to be rigged out. I will not allow that,” Raila told Radio Jambo during a live interview.
This comes after Jubilee welcomed NASA running mate Kalonzo Musyoka to their camp.
Several Jubilee leaders toured Ukambani and urged Kalonzo to desert Raila
"We know Kalonzo is a man of good deeds and a church elder. Once we re-elect [President Uhuru Kenyatta], we will welcome Kalonzo back to Jubilee and they can pair with [DP William] Ruto in 2022,” said former Turbo MP Elisha Busienie.
