ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire his Deputy President William Ruto over the NYS scandal.
Raila says the mentioning of Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet and his close ally Senator Kipchumba Murkomen during the scandal’s probe is reason enough for the DP to take political responsibility.
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) co-principal says the two have been adversely mentioned by the main suspects in the scandal. They are accused of benefitting from the NYS cash through statements recorded with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
During the probe proceedings two weeks ago, MPs demanded to grill Kibet over the scandal but nothing has been forthcoming.
Speaking in Narok on Saturday during a thanksgiving ceremony for the newly-elected ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, Raila hinted that the DP could have benefitted from the proceeds.
“Those two are his people. Kibet received cash. We need to know on whose behalf and exactly how much he received. Ruto cannot continue to walk around and attack other suspects when his own office has been linked to the scandal,” he said.
He added, “He (Ruto) must take political responsibility.”
During the investigations, former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru has mentioned Murkomen and Kibet numerous times in connection with the multibillion-shilling scandal.
Both Kibet and Murkomen maintain that Waiguru is lying.
