Cord leader Raila Odinga has hit back at President Uhuru Kenyatta accusing him of abdicating his authority in the fight against corruption.
On Wednesday, Raila asked Kenyans not to expect miracles from the Jubilee administration to end corruption.
He said both Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto have failed in combating the corruption saying "they are the problem."
“It is clear that when it comes to corruption, we are on our own, and we must think and act as such. Fellow Kenyans, the time has come for us to accept that on corruption, President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and the Jubilee government have failed, and failed spectacularly,” said the former prime minister.
“Let us accept that the crooks milking Kenya dry operate from the heart of the Jubilee government, with the offices of the President and that of the Deputy President leading from the top when it comes to stealing from Kenyans,” added Raila in a statement to newsrooms.
He at the same time accused the Head of State of interfering with the ongoing investigations by the Auditor General into the Eurobond saga.
“This is interference with the due administration of justice meant to ensure that the investigations into the Eurobond scandal will never be conclusively finalised.”
He wondered why Uhuru does not want the Auditor General to pursue a matter of such massive public interest.
During the State House accountability summit on Tuesday, Uhuru also took a swipe at the proposed plan by the Auditor General, Edward Ouko, to probe the Federal Reserve Bank of New York officials over the alleged loss of Eurobond cash.
“I’ve heard that he (Ouko) wants to go to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to interrogate the case of Eurobond. Are we really serious about what we are doing?” he asked of the move.
Raila further told Uhuru that fighting corruption is not just a legal issue, but also a moral, ethical question.
“It requires a very personal statement and commitment that as President of Kenya and as Deputy President of Kenya, one will not participate in corruption and one shall not have corrupt people near them.”
He asked Uhuru to borrow a leaf from Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Tanzania’s John Pombe Magufuli and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame who have been in the forefront in graft war in their respective countries.
"While the President mocks Kenyans that he cannot set up a firing squad at Uhuru Park so that Kenyans can be happy, all around Kenya there are example of leaders who have made the personal commitment to fight corruption with spectacular results"
