Raila said there was need for Western region to support him for the presidency in 2017 for them to even benefit more in his government.

“When I was prime minister I ensured the Western region got positions of Deputy Prime Minister, ministers such as Ababu, Paul Otuoma, Wycliff Oparanya and Fred Gumo,” he said, adding that the leaders saying he did not help Western are lying to the public.

Other positions he said he gave to the region were assistant ministers, permanent secretaries, Speaker Kenneth Marende and Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa.

He stated that apart from the appointments, he initiated many projects especially road infrastructure which he improved in Western.

He criticized the Jubilee coalition for marginalizing the Western region for years leading to little development in the area.

“Vote for me and together we will enjoy these fruits of development,” said Raila.

Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya dismissed claims that Western region was neglected saying it is Raila who made him Minister for Planning in the grand coalition government.

“Currently Raila cannot help much because he is not in government. Vote for him so that we can benefit more,” said Oparanya.
