Opposition coalition (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has pledged to build a new bridge for Budalangi residents once NASA is voted in.
The former prime minister said his government will engage professionals in rebuilding the Sigiri Bridge which collapsed the night before Monday.
The bridge built on a Ksh 1.2 billion budget was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta a fortnight ago during his Busia Meet the People tour.
While inspecting it, the head of state reiterated his commitment towards improving infrastructure across the country. He said it’s under his watch that the Sigiri Bridge was being built.
Area MP Ababu Namwamba hailed Uhuru Kenyatta as a committed leader who minded about lives of the common citizenry.
The bridge, a key flagship project in Jubilee’s first term in office was set to be fully operational in July.
The government has ordered all construction activities on the bridge be stopped until investigations to what caused the Monday incident are complete.
