Opposition chief Raila Odinga has said that Mombasa governor is free to vie for the presidency.
Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, Raila said that his deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta was meant to allow people from all communities to go for the top seat.
"We do not want to look at tribes. We don't want to have national leaders from tribes that had been marginalised. If Joho wants to be the president of Kenya then let him be voted for to lead the country. Is this the kind of nation we all want to build?" posed Raila.
Raila stated that he was forced to aside his political ambitions for the progress of the country.
"I shelved my interests and Uhuru put aside his political interests because we wanted a better Kenya for today and tomorrow. We wanted to get to a situation where everyone can go for the top seat. A Kenya where a Muslim can vie and be elected as the president of the country," said Raila.
His sentiments come at a time when as a section of Jubilee leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto are calling for the review of the handshake.
However, President Uhuru has affirmed that the handshake is here to stay.
