The National Super Alliance has filed a suit to block ballot papers printing tender awarded to Dubai firm, Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing LLC.

The case has been filed against electoral body, IEBC, who had warned that the elections, slated for August 8, could be affected should the Sh2.5 billion tender be cancelled.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati had revealed that the printing of the ballot papers will commence today, Friday.

Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga accused IEBC of ignoring voices of suspicion and fear over the involvement of the firm in the general elections and alleged links to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family, his rival in the polls.

NASA said the commission acted unfairly and against the law, and wants the court to quash the deal between IEBC and Al Ghurair.

The opposition also wants the court to compel IEBC to procure printing services afresh, this time involving the public and expressly bar Al Ghurair from participating.

The Opposition alliance claimed information available to the public associated Al Ghurair directors with Kenyatta's family, thus the company might eventually be part of a plot meant to rig elections in his favour.

Jubilee leaders, led by Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto, have accused Nasa of plotting to sabotage the elections.

"If he (Raila) is not prepared for elections, he should be ready to go home and retire and let us continue with our mandate. Kenyans should be allowed to exercise their mandate on August 8," Uhuru said in Nyeri on Thursday.
