ODM rebel and Karachuonyo MP James Rege has said that Raila Odinga’s close allies were the reason he defected from the party to the newly formed Jubilee Party.

He said that he did not have issues with Raila, but that the Cord leader's close confidants frustrated him as they did not believe in fairness and divergent opinions from others.

Rege said that the party’s top brass was corrupt and someone had to use bribes to get the nomination ticket, adding that he had parted with large sums of money to go past the nominations in his past two terms.

The Karachuonyo legislator insisted he would not defend his seat on an ODM ticket on grounds that he would still be rigged out by those he said were working close to Raila.

"There is no need to vie on an ODM ticket knowing well that I will not be given the nomination certificate even if I emerge the winner," he said.

Rege's defection to Jubilee was met with a lot of criticism from ODM, with a section of the party's leadership claiming that he had been enticed by money and ‘bought’ to join the government side.
