President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed Opposition leader Raila Odinga's presidential candidature, exuding confidence of beating him during the forthcoming general elections.
Mr Odinga and Uhuru have been earmarked by political pundits as the only serious contenders of the country's top seat, despite presence of six other candidates who have joined the race to State House.
Speaking on Tuesday during his tour of Kisii County, the Head of State noted that he beat the former Prime Minister during the 2013 general elections against all odds.
At the time, President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto had been indicted by the ICC over their alleged participation in the 2007/08 post-election violence that led to the loss of more than 1,000 Kenyans.
"We have several reasons as to why we want you to support us on August 8th, one of them is to enable us continue with what we have been doing to improve the lives of all Kenyans," he noted.
He further called for issue-based campaigns, free from propaganda and insults.
“There is no need of insulting one another, what is required is for leaders to propagate their party’s policies and Kenyans are wise enough to make independent decisions on what they want,” he said.
