ODM party leader and NASA presidential hopeful Raila Odinga’s integrity to hold a public office is being questioned by an NGO. The non-governmental organization, Human Rights Africa, believes that Raila is not fit to hold any public office.
The entity has petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate if Odinga meets the Leadership and Integrity constitutional requirements.
The Chapter Six of the constitution outlines what values one must possess in order to serve in a public office and the Presidency is one of the sensitive offices. The organization through it Chief Executive Officer Derrick Malika have pointed out several scandals that Raila is mentioned as a disqualification parameter if found guilty.
“We beseech your office, in keeping with your constitutional mandate, to investigate various cases of misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office where Raila Odinga is heavily mentioned and is allegedly involved in,” read part of Mr Malika’s letter to IEBC.
They are demanding a public release of the findings. They included recent complaints by Calvin Burgess who own Dominion Farms Ltd. The proprietor complained of harassment from Odinga for declining to fund his presidential bid. The Kenya Airways saga is also listed.
