As the two main presidential candidates; Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, continue to mark their territories ahead of the August 8 polls, the battle for Mombasa seems to be far from over as Jubilee is keen to bring to an end Raila's monopoly of the county's votes.
Speaking on Friday at Mikindani Social Hall, Jomvu constituency, Jubilee leaders in Mombasa led by governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal told ODM party leader Raila and his deputy Hassan Joho to brace for a bruising battle as the county has now moved to Jubilee.Shahbal said the county is charting a new political path after many years of 'suffering', adding that the region is no longer an opposition zone. While using the same event to poke holes into Governor Joho's development record, Shahbal claimed the firebrand Governor has been carrying a 'one-man-show' in the management of the county affairs, adding that he never takes any input from his critics.Former Changamwe MP Ramadhan Kajembe who endorsed Shahbal asked residents to vote for Jubilee for the sake of development, which he said can only be realised when working with the government.Kajembe said the county's political dynamics have changed since 2013, and exuded confidence that Jubilee will get a better return in Mombasa this time round. He hit out at Joho's development record, accusing the Governor of having nothing to show for his tenure as the county boss.
