Jubilee Party governors have weighed in on demanding for the State to pay herders whose herds of cattle was allegedly killed by police in Laikipia County on Friday.

Kajiado County boss Joseph Ole Lenku and his Samburu counterpart Moses Lenolkulal condemned the act and asked the Government to compensate the affected herders.

"It is reckless for police officers in the Government who have used excessive force to kill over 300 cows. This should not be seen as if the Maa community is being targetted. We are in Jubilee and this is our government but the leaders must come out and compensate the affected," Lenku said addressing journalists in Nairobi.

Lenolkulal said the community solely depends on livestock for their livelihood, adding that the police officers who were involved in the incident be brought to book.

"We as leaders from the Maa community demand that the Government starts investigations into the shooting of cows in Laikipia in order to bring to book the culprits," the county boss added.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has also criticised the police, terming the killings as an economic sabotage against the pastoralist communities.

"We want Uhuru to act swiftly and compensate those affected. His government should stop these killings," he said during a press conference at Serena Hotel on Saturday.

Similar calls have been made by Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda and former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel.
