NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka have clashed in public over the six-piece voting approach ahead of the August 8 polls.
Speaking on Friday night during an Iftar meal (fast-ending evening meal during Ramadhan) where they were hosted by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Mr Musyoka urged his ODM colleagues to stop advocating for the election of Opposition candidates as this would create unfairness.
“Don’t say ODM, ODM ODM and take everything because that will leave us with nothing,” Musyoka said.
“We have Amani National Congress and other partners in Nasa. Let’s stop asking voters to elect only ODM candidates,” he added.
But when it came Raila's turn to speak, the ODM leader asked voters to choose ODM party candidates, arguing that even though they were in a coalition, every party was drumming up support for their respective candidates.
“I know Musyoka will advocate for Wiper, Mudavadi ANC, Moses Wetangula Ford-Kenya and Isaac Ruto will say let rain come from the skies (Chama Cha Mashinani's symbol is rain drops). But I say elect ODM candidates in Mombasa,” said Odinga.
