National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate, Raila Amolo Odinga and lawyer Kethi Kilonzo have differed over October 26th fresh polls.
In an opinion piece published on Standard, Kethi argues that it is unwise for Raila, who is taking a fourth stab at the nation’s top seat, to boycott the fresh election following the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win by the Supreme Court.
According to Kethi, boycotting of the rerun will make Raila, a former prime minister, weaker as he seeks to ascend to power. The daughter of the late Senator Mutula Kilonzo also said that boycotting will make opposition supporters weaker.
"A sustained electioneering period, beyond the 60 days mandated by the constitution and pronounced by the Supreme Court, will not in any way advantage you or the people you are seeking to vote. The ardor of your supporters will be dampened. Their strength will soon be exhausted. Their spirit will wane," she said, as quoted by the local daily.
Raila and his brigades have maintained that they will not take part in the rerun unless their demands are met. The opposition wants Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba and other officials linked to the bungling of the August exercise to leave office.
