Opposition leader Raila Odinga headed for Milimani Law Courts on Thursday to show his full support for deported lawyer Miguna Miguna.
He left just moments before proceedings into the sentencing of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Immigration PS Gordon Kihalangwa, and IG Joseph Boinnet for contempt of court.
Miguna was not presented to the court as the earlier directive had stated. Raila had been spotted together with businessman Jimi Wanjigi and law professor Makau Mutua.
Human rights officials had yellow ribbons on them in their own show of solidarity amidst their demands for the government to respect court orders.
Justice George Odunga sentenced the three officials on Wednesday and instructed that they show up in court today for sentencing.
The judge went ahead and ordered that Miguna be freed unconditionally, warning that if the state officials fail to let him go, the court will not grant them audience when they appear.
Miguna has been deported to Dubai and his lawyers want the three put behind bars for six months.
