Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga has joined other leaders from different parts of the nation in mourning the tragic death of 40 Kenyans at the Karai area along Nairobi- Nakuru Highway.
The former prime minister described the accident as one of the most horrific incidents the nation has suffered during this festive season.
He further called upon the general public to work hand in hand with the police and other security personnel to reduce the number of accidents in the country.
“This is a terrible time and a painful way to lose a family member or a friend, just when we are all looking forward to marking Christmas and celebrating the New Year,” said Raila, as quoted by the Star.
The accident ocurred after a fuel tanker crashed and exploded on Saturday night claiming the lives of innocent Kenyans.
Amani National Alliance leader Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President William Ruto have also expressed their deep sorrow following the deaths.
“I am shocked that so many perished before any meaningful rescue mission could reach them. This is an indication that the managements of certain sections of roads create death traps for unwitting Kenyans,” Mudavadi said.
On his part, Ruto urged Kenyans to pray for the families of the deceased during this hard moment.
