Orange Democratic Movement Secretary general Ababu Namwamba moved swiftly to reconcile Kisii County ODM leadership which has been undergoing in secret circles following the order of Raila Odinga, a source has revealed.
Governor James Ongwae and Senator Chris Obure have been locked in tussles after the latter declared gubernatorial interest recently making the ODM leadership to intervene in time.
According to the source, Mr Namwamba who met the two separately on Monday was sent by party leader Raila Odinga given the close ties he enjoys with the duo.
“There has been a crisis in ODM leadership given Ongwae and Obure are senior figures in the party and this made Odinga to send Namwamba to meet the two and discuss the politics of the region ahead of 2017 polls,” said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
”Namwamba basically brought the message of Mr Odinga who urged the two to minimise rivalry for the sake of the region and the party’s future. The two must pull together for ODM to have a major impact in presidential elections,” added the source.
The source said Namwamba who also participated in ODM protests against the IEBC in the region constituted a committee that will reconcile the two and nominated Senator Janet Ong’era who is also said to be uncomfortable in the party.
“Namwamba will head the committee that will also comprise of professionals allied to the party. They are meant to report to Raila on the progress,” added the source.
