Former Kitutu Masaba MP Abuya Abuya believes a merger between opposition leader Raila Odinga and his ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi will deny President Uhuru Kenyatta a second term in office.
The duo separated in 2012 ahead of the last general elections and have been linked with a possible reunion moments after meeting in the US Democratic Party convention in Philadelphia.
In an exclusive interview with the reporter on Tuesday, Mr Abuya said that Musalia’s presence in Cord would give Jubilee sleepless nights due to his influence in Kenyan politics.
“If Mudavadi supports Raila’s bid in 2017, then I see a possible one-term presidency by the incumbent. He has long term experience and is widely accepted not only in his Western turf but across the country,” he said.
“He plays sober politics and I am sure his presence in Cord would give the ruling coalition sleepless nights. He is an asset and I support Raila to reach him and craft a possible work-together deal if he wants to win next year,” Abuya added.
According to Abuya, Mudavadi would also thwart the growing rebellion against Raila in western region.
“Uhuru had started making inroads in the region and if Musalia supports someone like Raila, the Western unity might be achieved. President Kenyatta’s influence will be dealt a huge blow and I see him losing if Mudavadi joins the opposition team,” he added, saying that Mudavadi’s presence in the ballot 2013 polls helped Uhuru to avoid a run-off.
