Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief Raila Odinga has had a long stint in politics spanning over 25 years. He has been in the forefront fighting for the welfare of Kenyans in all sectors. He has called on the upholding of equality in all needs of Kenyans and he has also fought social ills like corruption in the society.
From his first elective post in 1992 as Langata Member of Parliament, Raila has metamorphosised to a leader that can be looked up for various quality political directions. He has served as a minister and Prime Minister in Kenya and has an intensive CV that cannot be matched by other political leaders.
Now, Raila has declared interest in running for presidency in 2017 under Cord's umbrella. And this has not gone down with other leaders in the coalition.
Earlier, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula had launched his presidential bid. This is a clear indication of discord in Cord and it can lead to the downfall of the coalition prior to the 2017 elections. With all these disgruntlements in the coalition, Raila Odinga should let another politician take the helm at Cord. This will improve the gel of all the politicians in the coalition. It will also help stem the mass exodus of legislators from ODM which is a constituent party of the Cord coalition.
Raila plied his presidency bids in 1997, 2007 and 2013 and it is only fair to let another person try their luck in the country's top management when 2017 comes. As the year approaches, Raila must incorporate the other leaders, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka in his decision making over Cord flag bearer position. This will improve Cord's chances in 2017.
