State officers campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection bid will be fired should NASA form the next government, ODM leader Raila Odinga has revealed.
Raila stated that the NASA administration will not accommodate State officers who have been engaging in political activities, which he observed was in contravention of the Constitution.
“Uhuru must prepare to leave office with his political civil servants. We will not allow them to serve in NASA government,” said Raila on Monday.
The ODM party leader was speaking during a function to hand out direct nomination certificates to some ODM aspirants at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
The former Prime Minister said it was against the law for Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and other State officers to be involved in activities of a political party or a candidate.
He faulted State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, who on Sunday said that public servants have a right to interact with citizens to give details on improved service delivery under President Uhuru Kenyatta administration.
“When State House says it is normal for State officers to campaign, then something is wrong,” said Raila.
The opposition has been accusing Jubilee of using state officers and machinery to campaign.
Some of the Cabinet Secretaries accused of campaigning for Jubilee include Najib Balala, Charles Keter, Joseph Nkaissery, Eugene Wamalwa and Mwangi Kiunjuri.
