Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga insists that the opposition will not participate in 2017 General elections should the government insist on changing controversial election laws.
On Thursday, MPs are expected to have another fierce encounter when the amendment to election laws, that would pave way for a possible manual voting it tabled.
Raila said that he will only accept a bipartisan approach if the Joint Senate and National assembly committee is entrusted to review the laws.
“I want to tell Kenyatta (President Uhuru) that we will not participate in any elections should he insist that the laws are amended. We are a sovereign country where rules must be respected,” he said.
“If they had issues with the laws which were passed, I expect them to reach the committee which handled the same. We cannot beg people always to respect basic laws of the land,” Raila said during the last day of Luo Festivals in Homa Bay on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Speaker Justin Muturi was forced to delay parliamentary proceedings after MPs allied to opposition blocked his procession from accessing parliament.
