NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga is not keen to become Kenya's fifth president but he is aiming at something different, a political analyst has hypothised.
"What Raila is doing is negotiating for power. He did a pilot with the IEBC last year, where he forced the government to negotiate with him; an unofficial opposition leader. He wants to do it again, but for a part of government," he said.Regular commentator on the Star Mr Ngunjiri Wambugu has stated that Odinga is only interested power brokering more of a 'nusu mkate' government but not to become the Head of State.
"Essentially, he has made it clear to them that should he become President, there will be radical changes in the system. Then he has told the country that his first action if he is elected will be to amend the Constitution — to introduce a Chief Minister and re-organise government," he said.According to Wambugu whoever wants to be the president cannot attack systems that he intends to work with when he is the head of government yet he says Odinga is doing the contrary.
"But Raila has bucked this system at literally every point, as he tries to be President. He has attacked the Public Service Commission, the Judiciary, parastatal chiefs, security services, etc. He has attacked independent commissions as well as various aspects of the Executive," said Wambugu.
Wambugu also questioned Raila's desire to be Kenya's fifth president if he was throwing salvos at the military owing to his recent utterances that the military is being trained to rig the August 8, polls.
"Then there is the ‘little matter’ of the military. I understand that, across the world, military institutions tend to have a serious problem accepting as Commander-in-Chief a civilian who has ever tried to manipulate them into a coup," said Wambugu.
