The National Super Alliance (NASA) intends to launch its television and radio stations if the government staged media blackout persists, an Opposition MP has said.
Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu said NASA was well prepared to pirate a TV and Radio mediums to drive their agenda among supporters even as the media blackout surges into day seven.
“We are prepared and ready to so at anytime should the ban on TV stations continue,” Mr Eseli stated while in Soy, “We will not allow Jubilee to abuse the rights and freedoms of our people as enshrined in the constitution.”
The government through the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) switched off leading TV stations NTV, KTN News, Citizen TV and Inooro TV on grounds that there were several media characters involved in furthering the “illegal NASA swearing plan” that happened on Tuesday, January 30 at Uhuru Park.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said the TV stations will remain shut until the probe into possible incitement is completed.
However, a Nairobi High Court issued orders that the government suspends the shutdown after activist Okiya Omtatah lodged a petition protesting on the infringements of constitutional rights and privileges of Kenyans by the shutdown.
But CA blocked the activist from delivering the court order. Omtatah was barred from accessing CA’s premises located at CA Center on Waiyaki Way.
